Paintball markers are the main piece of equipment in the sport of paintball. The word developed from its original use as a way for forestry workers and ranchers to mark trees and wandering cattle. Most paintball players and aficionados have a preference to the politically right name “marker” rather than “gun”, to ease public discernment that paintball is a dangerous sport and the markers are weapons. When playing paintball, it is important to don on protective devices such as the mask and specific activity clothing because it can harm the skin with bruises or further tissue damage when fired in close contact with another person.
